The White Barn is the only white barn in Viscri, and since July 2017 it has been our restaurant. The old buffalo stable became the kitchen and the hayloft the dining room, furnished with restored pieces from the region. Behind it is the orchard; when it’s warm, we eat outside.

What we cook
Transylvanian recipes, Saxon and Szekler, from Mara’s family recipe book. Some we cook as we found them, some slightly reimagined. The ingredients come from the village and around it: vegetables, cheese, meat, jams, from people we know by name.
The menu is written every morning, once the producers have been. That is why it is short, and why it changes. Today’s menu is online, with prices.
How a meal works here
- Everything is cooked to order, so it takes time. If you are in a hurry, tell us when you call.
- Call before you come. We cook just what’s needed, so nothing goes to waste. The dining room is small and fills up.
- Our team is from the village. For many it is their first job. Thank you for your patience.
