The White Barn restaurant
Since July 2017 we have been cooking Transylvanian food from Mara’s family recipe book. The menu is short and changes every day, with whatever the producers bring. In 2019 Gault&Millau Romania named us one of its 6 special destinations in the country.

The village asked us for a restaurant
We bought the house in January 2016; nobody had lived in it for twenty years. When we arrived, the village invited us to a meal and told us what it was missing: a restaurant, and work for the village women. Our team has been from the village ever since.
Our story · How we restored the house

Viscri
A Saxon village in southern Transylvania, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1999. We live at number 32, in the middle of the village, with the fortified church on the hill behind our orchard.
In the evening, the cows walk home from the pasture on their own, and each one turns in at its own gate. The day visitors have gone, and the village belongs to those who stayed.
Why Viscri? Fifteen seconds of it, on Facebook.
Out of season too
In winter, when the restaurant opens less often, we host fine dining evenings. Through the year, Transylvanian wine tastings and cooking sessions with guest chefs.
