Viscri

Viscri is a Saxon village in southern Transylvania, on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1999, along with other villages with fortified churches. We live at number 32, in the middle of the village, with the church on the hill behind our orchard.

For the village’s history and heritage, the best place is viscri.ro, the village’s official website. Here we write what we tell our own guests.

Getting here

In a day

  • The fortified church, on the hill, a short walk from us. Its defensive walls and towers were raised over the centuries around an older church.
  • The main street, with its coloured houses and tall gates. In the evening the cows come home from pasture on their own, each one turning in at its own gate.
  • A meal in the White Barn. Call ahead: +40 755 084 084.

If you stay the night

In the evening and early morning, the village belongs to those who stayed: the day visitors have gone. And dinner with wine isn’t followed by a drive.

Villages nearby

Viscri is a good base for the Saxon villages around it: Meșendorf, where some of our cheese comes from, Criț, Saschiz, Biertan, Mălâncrav, the Rupea fortress and Sighișoara.
